Design inspiration: Open - Closed, Visible - Hidden
There are objects in my home that I love. Often these are things that I am proud of and that I like to display on my dresser so that they can catch the eye and be admired. However, there is also a second group of items - those that I want to always have within reach, such as a book or my phone. In order to reconcile these two functions, I designed a piece of furniture that combines a place for display with storage.
Functionality and aesthetics
The furniture I created has a simple, modern form. The handleless doors ensure that the chest of drawers maintains a clean, minimalist look, blending perfectly into contemporary interiors. The horizontal lines of the ledge with shelf and the slender wooden legs add lightness and delicacy to the chest of drawers, creating a subtle yet functional structure.
Contrasting colors
To distinguish the two different functions of the furniture - open and closed, visible and hidden - I decided to use two colors. The neutral, solid colour of the casing blends into the background and acts as an almost invisible element, allowing the furniture to fit discreetly into the space. The cornice element, on the other hand, is made in the natural color of oak, which brings warmth and cosiness to the interior thanks to its carefully selected grain.
Consistency of the interior
To maintain the aesthetic coherence of the entire interior, I used the same wooden legs in the design of the sofa. The chest of drawers and sofa together form a harmonious whole, introducing order and stylistic uniformity. An additional element connecting the sofa with the rest of the furniture is a wooden shelf placed at its end. The shelf has a practical function - it makes it possible to put away small items that are always worth having nearby.
My design is a combination of functionality and aesthetics that strikes a balance between the need for display and storage, while maintaining a modern, light form and warm atmosphere.
